Meet Dr. Michelle Hays, DVM 

Dr. Michelle Hays graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987 after completing her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Illiinois. 

Dr. Hays spent the first 11 years of practice doing emergency medicine in California, Chicago, and North Carolina. Having moved to Charlotte in 1991, Dr. Hays has spent the last 13 years working in both private practice and a spay neuter clinic, and has performed over 15,000 spays and neuters since 2001.
Dr. Hays has a daughter, 13 years, and a son, 11 years, both in middle school, and so most of her spare time is spent in the car on the way to ice skating practice, football practice, boy scouts, girl scouts, cross country,etc.. Dr. Hays has one very loved (and fat) kitty cat.

Meet Sarah Frerichs, Registered Veterinary Technician   

Sarah recieved an Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technician. Sarah took and passed her boards to become a Registered Veterinary Technician in December 2011. Sarah also has a BS degree from the University of Iowa. Sarah has been involved with animal welfare programs with Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control since 2008. She has worked as a spay neuter veterinary surgical assistant  since 2010. She currently lives in Davidson, NC with her husband, her golden retriever, Tess, two cats and two horses.

Sarah, Tammy and Dr. Hays have worked together in nonprofit animal welfare for the past 2 years prior to opening Spay Neuter Clinic of the Carolinas. They are very excited about continuing to work together as a team to be able to help animals!

Meet Tammy Zawila, Clinic Manager and Veterinary Assistant 

Tammy started working in a large and small animal veterinary practice in South Carolina in 1994. Since then she has spent the past 19 years dedicated to nonprofit organizations in helping with not only fostering animals and finding pets their forever homes, but has also been a strong force in helping to eliminate pet overpopulation and euthanasia.

Tammy has been instrumental in the opening of other spay neuter clinics in the area and has implemented and organized local low cost vaccine clinics for the public. Tammy also helps out with several local animal hospitals as a veterinary assistant. And also sits on Charlotte area Board of Directers for a non-profit organization. 

Tammy, Dr. Hays and Sarah share the same passion when it comes to wanting to help families with their pets for a cost that can be affordable. Tammy and Dr. Hays have worked together since 1998 and both share the same passion toward animals and the care they should recieve.

Tammy and her husband Michael have two daughters, two sons, two cats and two dogs. In their spare time they enjoy anything on the water and watching thier favorite football teams . 


Dr Matthew Woods

Meet Dr. Matthew Woods, DVM

Dr. Woods grew up in the Charlotte area attending UNC Charlotte for his undergraduate degree. He then moved to Athens, Georgia where he obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 2005. After graduation, he moved back into the Charlotte area and currently resides here with his wife and two boys. They also have two dogs, Georgia and Jager, and two cats, Oscar and Precios. Dr. Woods hobbies include spending time with his family, camping, golfing and keeping up with his two young boys. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and is looking forward to working alongside everyone here at the Spay Neuter Clinic of the Carolinas. 


Meet Suzanne Jones, Veterinary AssistantVeterinary Assitant

Animals have always been a passion for Sue and after leaving corporate america she decided to follow that passion. Sue became certified as a Dog Obedience Trainer/Instructor and in 2005 started her own pet sitting business for dogs and cats. In 2007, her business grew to also include horse sitting. 
In 2012 Sue became a ceritfied Veterinary Assistant and also became the training coordinator for a local Pit Bull rescue organization. In Sue's spare time she loves to spend time with all of her four legged family members. Sue has four dogs: Pepper, Champagne, Sasha and Dakota. (all rescue dogs) And she has two quarter horses: Scratch and LV.


Donna Carpenter

Meet Donna Carpenter, Receptionist

Donna is a Charlotte navtive that has been working in the veterinary field since 1997. Ever since she was a little girl she has been passionate about helping animals in need, and could not imagine doing anything else. Donna has volunteered at local rescues and has opened up her home to pets in need. 
Donna currently shares her home with her husband Adam, two dogs and a cat. In her spare time she enjoys photography, boating, spending time with her husband and fur-babies out-doors.
